Voluntary Off-Duty/Recreational/On-Duty Accident Insurance Offering

PowerDetails has partnered with Colonial Life for voluntary Off-Duty/Recreational/On-Duty accident insurance with a short-term disability option for Law Enforcement Personnel who work off-duty details.

These insurance policies are completely voluntary, and should only be chosen by employees who do not have other types of accident insurance coverage currently in place. Payment for policies will be paid directly by the officer seeking coverage and will not be the responsibility of the agency.

Our primary intention is to make available optional protection to personnel that might need it.


Personnel Insurance - FAQ’s

What is being offered and what is the cost?

  • 24-hours a day 365 days a year Accident Insurance with Short Term Disability Insurance Option.
  • *Monthly premiums are $10-15 based on state regulations.

How do I pay for it?

  • The monthly premium will be drafted from your checking or savings account on or around the 1st of each month.

When am I covered?

  • While working an off-duty job/secondary employment? --- Yes
  • While not working? --- Yes, at work or at play. While working your side job, hunting accidents, youth sports injuries, riding your motorcycle, etc. Some exclusions will apply and are defined in the policy.
  • While on my on-duty shift? --- Yes
  • When diagnosed with a critical illness? --- Yes, policies are HSA compliant with subsequent diagnosis coverage, health screening benefits, and cancer benefits.*

*Applies only to Critical Illness Coverage

What are the requirements to be covered?

  • Being employed and working an average of 20 hours per week.
  • Reserve officers (not employed by the agency) are eligible if employed and work at least 20 hours per week.
  • Civilians that help officers during jobs can be insured as long as the minimum eligibility requirement of actively working at least 20 hours per week is met (at your primary and/or secondary employment).

When can I enroll?

  • Open enrollment will be taking place June 1st - June 28th. We will also offer voluntary enrollment for new contractors as needed throughout the year.
